Five of Cups
Tarot Wisdom: Five of Cups

Here we see the man cloaked in misery - reflecting over his losses. His three cups have spilled and now he grieves. In fact he becomes so caught up in his grief and remorse that he turns his back on the two upright cups that are sitting right there. He reminds us that where we focus our thoughts we also focus our energy. In our lives sometimes feelings of loss will be present. It is in those times it is important to not become too attached to the emotions of nostalgia and regret, but to turn around and shift our focus to those two upright cups... the blessings and abundance that already are there. In so doing, we make way for more abundance to flow in while working constructively to heal our grievances.

Five of Cups

1st Position:
A period of obstacles and exhaustion. Depression. Feeling depressed or low energy - could also be boredom or a need for something more exciting in your life.

2nd Position:
Feelings of Loneliness and Disappointment are weighing heavily on you right now. Period of seeking and not finding. Unable to recognize the joys because the focus is on difficulty.

3rd Position:
You may be having difficulties in your marriage/relationship or another prominent area in your life. You are tired of feeling like you have to work so hard only to remain dissatisfied. Indicates a period of emotional exhaustion, or feeling overwhelmed.

4th Position:
You are at a point right now where you are in need of a spiritual cleansing. You are looking outward to find things that will fill the void. What you need to understand is that until you deal with what is going on inside of you, you will never achieve peace. Remember the only person you are guaranteed to spend eternity with is yourself. Learn to honor the soulmate that you see in the mirror everyday. When we become attached to feelings of deprivation or loneliness we fail to fully appreciate the abundance that is also present. Where our thoughts go so does our energy, and we draw to us what we put out.

5th Position:
In time you will see the truth in the situation. Remember that sometimes what you think you want or need is not always what is for your highest good. The best way to transcend difficulty is to keep moving through it. Focus on your blessings and victories. Staying stuck in the pain of the past keeps you from making the most of the present. That stagnant energy needs to be cleared away to allow room for better circumstances to make their way to you.
